Husband is having partial glossectomy in two weeks

And I'm terrified. I'm 40 and he's 53. We are both mental health counselors so we listen and talk for a living. Everyone is telling us we caught it early so he's going to do well. They are going to reconstruct his tongue using muscle from his thigh. We live in Maryland and he's having surgery at the Univeristy of Maryland Medical Center under the care of a surgeon who comes highly recommended. And I'm still terrified. I'm so concerned about his quality of life after surgery. We are trying to stay positive and he has a great attitude... He's already keeping a "silver lining list" - all the things that are silver linings in this situation. The first one he's excited about is losing weight! Did I mention I'm terrified??? I read some of the glossectomy stories on here and it seems most of them lost 3/4 to full tongue. I'm really hoping that a partial glossectomy has a much better outcome?!? It sounds like people who have a total glossectomy never really regain the ability to eat solids and it seems to be miserable. I know my husband would be come suicidal if his quality of life became that diminished. It's a painful reality, but one I'm very aware of. Anything that anyone can say about partial glossectomy experiences, thigh flap reconstruction of the tongue and eating after surgery would be greatly valued and appreciated. His surgery is scheduled for August 5th.
