HI.

I did not know what to say for the subject ...... my guy has cancer and still likes to sit on the couch to watch tv after dinner .............we have tried our easy chairs but no good.

Our couch is cushy so I put a folded up comforter under one of the end cushions and he sat there, it raised him up a bit but now that his legs are getting weaker its harder for him to get up from the couch even with the comforter under there. It still sinks downs so its hard for him to get up even with my help.

any thoughts anyone ?????

Is your guy in hospice care?   Mine is, and tomorrow we are getting a lift chair (recliner) for him.  Right now, he puts one hand on the arm of the couch or chair he's in and one on the cushion beside him and pushes himself up to a standing position.  If he still needs help, maybe you could put an arm under his armpit and help him up.  This is what they told us to do when he was in rehab after a seizure.

Could you talk to a physical therapist or the like to see if they have any suggestions? Try a local nursing home for recommendations if you don't know a PT. We are very lucky in that our local nursing home has an in house PT and OT, and their doors are always open to offer suggestions.

Best of luck

I'm not sick or have cancer, but do enjoy this because of a bad bad hip.

I have a lift chair also that we were able to get for free at the end of a garage sale where they just wanted to get rid of it. The only issue is that it is not as comfy as my other chair.

Also, have you looked risers?

I have used these before for our bed. Mine raised my bed by 6".  That may help to since your butt is not so back into cushions because legs are more down. Doesn't move and quite stable. They're shaped like a highway cone so the base doesn't move as long as you are on a flat surface.
