Angry & verbally aggressive!

My sister recently completed her 6 weeks of chemo & radiation. Now, she is beginning her 5 days of chemo a month. She is on Kepra to prevent seizures. We have noticed recently that her anger is getting worse and worse. She doesn't hesitate to let her feelings known either. She says mean things to her two grown daughters and to our 92 year old parents, who think she doesn't love them anymore. She is extremely bossy where they are concerned. She lives next door to them, and that doesn't help. She is also making crazy decisions. Not life threatening but not sensible decisions. Her tumor was on the left frontal lobe. It was all removed at MD Anderson Hospital. She has not needed steroids & has done absolutely great through all treatment so far. She hasn't had any trouble with the five a month, so far. Has anyone else noticed this behavior in someone with GBM. We really are not sure how to handle her at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depending on tumor location, there can definitely be changes in personality.  Getting mean is also something I've heard from others caregivers.  How much is brain tumor caused vs. pissed off at having brain cancer caused? Everyone is different.  I would advise everyone to confront her on her hurtful or mean behavior because if you don't, you will end up fed up and no one will want to be around her.  If her decision making/ reasoning seems impaired, that I would think is definitely more related to the tumor.  You could ask to speak to her doctor as impaired reasoning could be dangerous for herself and others.

Thank you, Dodger! I think we have felt so sorry for her and don't want bad feelings between any of us that we have just let her say whatever. I guess we need to not let her be that way. Thanks for the input!

I strongly suggest you talk to his doctor.  My husband did the same thing, at times he didn't even realize how bad it was just seconds later.

There is a possibility it could be the keppra. It has been called "keppra rage". My wife is on it, and although it hasn't got that bad, she says she feels that she gets irritable much easier than before. They might need to adjust her dosage.

My sister is 66 years old and has just started being angry and verbally abusive. Her steroid dose (Dex....) was increased to 6mg two weeks ago. Not sure why this new behaviour but she is on a cocktail of meds and we do not know what the tumour is doing  post surgery(11 months ago, debulking and radiation(completed) some chemo but did not finish due to lung blood clots). Hospital will not do any more tests(cat scan...mri etc) as she has been delared terminaly ill. She is bed ridden due to the affects of the steroids(muscle deterioration and possibly affects of surgery and sections of tumour remaining) She remains in hospital.

The verbal abusive (mood swings)is similar to other mental disorders of the brain as in dementia etc. We are speaking with the doctor but I know celexa helped my father with his mood swings due to vascular dementia. If anyone has other ideas I would like to hear them.

This is such an evil disease! I had never even heard of it before my sisters diagnosis. I pray for anyone with this heartbreaking evil monster !

Yes we are having the same problem...

-Glioblastoma brain tumor in frontal lobe
-Surgery & chemo/radiation has ended long time ago
-Has been on Decadron (dexamethasone) since surgery for swelling
-Started taking keppra (levetiracetam) for seizures
-"keppra rage" started

There are other AEDs (anti epileptic drug) out there. We will try a different one next week. I will update.

Please any insight is appreciated.

Question: has anyone found CBD oil to help with any of this?

Will be one year next month that Surgery &  9months that chemo/radiation ended. Has been on THC oil three times a day, helps with appetite and settles stomach also has  antinflamatory properties(suppose to help shrink tumours?)

No seizures as yet? Behaviour is back to normal as we have tried a med from the diazapam family, Still cannot walk but moves legs and arms?
