Is it possible to acquire HPV from your monogamous partner?

It's possible to acquire HPV from any sexual partner, even without actually completing a sexual act.  And any kind of sex can cause a transfer of the virus.  Most people can shake off the virus, but others can harbor it for years or decades.

another point is that HPV can lay in inactive state for decades.  so, any sex partner, or each of their partners could be the carrier.   so, who really knows where we got it in the first place.  Remember there is no reliable test to see if we have it or not.  positive results are only possible in active outbreaks.

This is all what I've learned from many research projects, but the information about this topic is very diverse and quite confusing.  There has not been enough studies on this topic.

Hubby and I have been monogamous for 20 years. However, we were 42 and 35 when we met so obviously there have been other sexual partners before we met. Some discussion even discuss deep kissing, etc.

We have discussed this (who, when, etc.) but it doesn't matter and we'll never know.  It would be the same as asking how someone may have gotten another cancer.  You just don't know.  In our case, we are working on getting rid of it and moving on.
