I agree with you about legalizing euthanasia. I know my father would have chosen that option had it been available in our state. I will keep your mother in my thoughts and hope she has a swift and peaceful end.

My dad used lomastine with avastin at the end of his treatment. We never saw much benefit to it vs avastin alone. He didn’t have too many bad side effects from the lomastine although many people have horrible side effects from it.

First, good luck to your mother. Mainly with the Avastin especially after she takes it for a while, be very careful about avoiding scrapes and cuts. The bleeding can be bad and the healing will be slow.

You can answer some questions on Duke's website and then talk to someone on the phone about his case. They are usually pretty upfront with you about your chances of getting into the polio trial or what they can do for you. My father's tumor was on the language part of his brain and he had lots of trouble saying the words he was thinking all throughout his various treatments. He was also 71 when he was diagnosed. He w...

My father started Avastin after his tumor recurred. Temodar didn't work very well for him either. The Avastin worked well at halting tumor progression for about a year. It never shrank the tumor. It just paused it. Then the tumor started growing again, but his oncologist did think the tumor was still being slowed by the Avastin. He didn't have too many side effects from the Avastin, except he bled a lot if cut or scr...

If you haven't started hospice, do so immediately. Your brother's oncologist should be able to get that started for you. They will be a tremendous support system.

My 73 year old father is in month 23 of his fight. For about the last two months he's been very unsteady on his feet and fallen a few times. He's very weak and can't get off the bed or the sofa without help. He's still receiving Avastin treatments, although I wonder if he'll be strong enough next week for his treatment. For the last several months his gait was just a slow shuffle and now he can't do that without help...

Has your doctor mentioned Avastin? They usually put people on it when the Temodar stops working and the tumor shows signs of regrowth, but it also keeps brain swelling down in addition to slowing (or in some cases stopping) tumor growth. It does have some unpleasant side effects, but might be worth it in your case. Good luck to your mom.

My father was diagnosed in April of 2015. Had surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. Did standard radiation-Temodar treatments. Then in October 2015, tumor started growing again. Doctors put him on Avastin. The Avastin stopped tumor growth until July 2016, but still kept the growth very slow until about a month ago. Since then, the tumor has grown back to its original size. However, his oncologist still ...

I would ask at your hospital or treatment center to speak with a social worker or a patient advocate. Let them know your problems. It may be possible that you are eligible for some sort of home health care that could at least check in on your husband while you are at work. The people at the hospital or treatment center should have some more suggestions for you. My Dad is battling stage 4 GBM, too. He was diagnosed in...
