I have immense empathy for everyone here who has lost a loved one and somehow managed to carry on.  My husband survived for 30 months after his PC diagnosis.  When he died in April of this year I was saddened beyond anything I have ever experienced and yet...I was so grateful that his suffering had ended.  I don't have a "plan" for how I'm going to get through this.  I jus...

I'm sorry about your husband.  Chemo treatment, infection, and disease progression can all produce symptoms of "chemo brain."  Pain medication only ups the confusion ante.  As my husband's cancer progressed, he exhibited some of the symptoms you describe -- forgetting words, forgetting what he was saying, and just plain talking nonsense.  It sounds as though you oncologist susp...

I'm sorry about your father.  Can you tell us a little more about his situation -- what are his symptoms, what chemo treatment will he be having, what other health issues does he have?  Given the situation you've suddenly been thrust into, it's perfectly understandable that you would want to prepare yourself for what may come.

It may be worth while to inquire about erythromycin.

No apologies necessary.  My comment was intended for Augustus and I should have made that clear.

Please post responsibly.  When it comes to taking Marinol, it is possible to have a withdrawal reaction.  One may not be able  to "just quit."  Your doctor may suggest that you reduce your dosage gradually.  In any case, it is always best to consult with your doctor and not rely on the medical advice of the lay persons who post here.   You are also incorrect in ...

Given this family member's criticism and neediness and given your worry over your mother, it's perfectly understandable that you would be angry in this situation.  May I make a suggestion?  As a family caregiver, your "store" has to be open for your caree -- your mother-- 24-7.  But you don't have to be open 24-7 for everyone.  It may be helpful to communicate to this family member when you are "o...
