I know of a peer (40-something, female) who had surgery, no radiation. It did involve a temporary trach and grafting involving her tongue. But she is back to work, no feeding tube, normal speech, no radiation side effects. I wish my partner had done this. She went to the University of North Carolina. Good luck.

My husband has had 30 radiation treatments for oropharyngeal cancer so far. He has a PEG tube, but has copious amounts of thick mucus that he spits out constantly. It gags him to the point of throwing up. It is affecting his ability to tolerate the tube feeding. Any suggestions.
