Massage from a speech therapist or massage therapist has helped me.  I see the speech therapist every 2-3 months and the massage therapist every 2 weeks.  I've also been using a Ben-Gay type product called Icy Hemp from Alamo Botontials and CBD oil and I feel these are helping with the radiation side effects.

I am 7+ years out from my base of tongue cancer.  The key is that I am alive and have survived a horrible treatment regiment.  I never had too many issues with my feet/hands from the chemo.  I did lose alot of my hearing and developed very loud ringing and have worn hearing aids for 6+ years.  My biggest issue is from the radiation - especially with swallowing, the size of the month opening and pa...

Oh Yea, cisplatin is well known for causing tinnitus and hearing loss.  I was diagnosed with base of tongue cancer in 2011 and went through 3 rounds of "induction" chemo using a cocktail of 3 drugs, one of which was cisplatin.  I already had some ringing from everyday life, but within the year it got pretty noisy.  Between my hearing loss and the ringing I went to hearing aids.  They help with the...

Alsowww.oralcancerfoundation.organdwww.oralcancernews.org ENT's are NOT cancer specialists.  As a survivor of "base of tongue" cancer, I would seek out a head and neck cancer specialist. Best Wishes for your recovery!

Base of Tongue cancer survivor.  Cisplatin was one of a 3 drug chemo cocktail that I was given.  There were 3 treatments each 3 weeks apart given prior to 7 weeks of radiation.  Cisplatin is commonly known to cause hearing loss, ringing in the ears, tingling/numbness fingers and toes, and of course hair loss.  My side effects are hearing loss and ringing in the ears.  I had a little tinglin...

Every person is different.  After my radiation treatments, it was like my tongue/mouth/throat didn't work so I understand what you are going through.  First, have you asked the Dr's for something to dry you up?  I was given prescription for the patches you use for sea sickness.  Also gargling with salt water and I seem to remember gargling with hydrogen peroxide!! What kind of therapy are you cu...

Oh boy, the dreaded face mask!!  I couldn't even make it through the fitting - I was given a shot of Ativan -- didn't even touch my panic so they gave me another which finally bought me down to where they could fit me.  Right then they gave me a script for Ativan and said to take it an hr or so before I came in for my radiation.  After 6-7 treatments I was able to survive without the Ativan.  Hope...

When my pet scan came back showing something on the opposite side of my tongue from where the cancer was I ended up having a second biospy done -- it was yeast causing the false positive!!
