So very sorry for you and your hubby. I was diagnosed with Stage 3B squamous cell lung cancer a year ago. Went through the chemo and radiation drill for two months. Then I started Tarceva, which has been working well for about 8 months. Although I try to stay positive and optimistic, it's impossible to not view life through this lens once you've been diagnosed. I sometimes ponder the possibility of a circumstance suc...

53, strong and healthy are all good. I'm 57 and I went through chemo and radiation about a year ago. Like your husband, I am in reasonably good health otherwise. The therapy didn't take too much of a toll on me. They do a great job of minimizing the side effects of chemo, and the radiation doesn't hurt at all. I was able to work throughout the entire time that I was having chemo/radiation.  I worked from home, w...

Hi. I was faced with your situation last year. My children are older, but it was still a very difficult situation.  I think you need to be very judicious in how you talk to them. Meaning, to the extent possible, you need to discuss everything in it's best possible light. So you talk about what you're going to do about it, and how the treatment or surgery or whatever is going to make you well again. Beyond that, ...

I'm in good shape but it would be a shame to have it go to waste. The stuff is crazy expensive! I hope there's a way to get it into the hands of someone who needs it.

I use a topical antibiotic, Clindimycin. It was prescribed to me at the same time as the Tarceva. I apply it to my face twice a day. I hope this helps.

Hi RichBoston.  My story is pretty-much the same as yours. Stage 3B lung cancer, diagnosed last February. I also went through chemo and radiation with the same results. In fact, another tumor grew in my lung while I was having the chemo. Thankfully, I was positive for the EGRF mutation and I began taking Tarceva in June. Like you, I am generally healthy. I rarely get colds, and I handled the the chemo and radiat...

Just a lilttle more detail. You'll have to call the place where where the the test was done and make arrangements to pick up the tissue samples. If there are scans that you wish to have reviewed, you'll need to pick them up as well.  In my case, they were at two separate places. But as I say, I delivered them so I know that they arrived.

You can carry them. I did. That way, you don't have to depend on anyone else to get them where they need to go.

Hi Robin. Sorry to hear about your dad. There is nothing more difficult to deal with than uncertainty. My heart goes out to you. Although I haven't personally experienced this ambiguity in interpreting my pathology reports, I have always gotten a second opinion. I've had two biopsies, and in both cases I took the slides and scan reports to the Mayo Clinic for their opinion. In my case, luckily, Mayo has always come ...

KimmieAnne, congrats on getting your hair back. I was wondering if this hair was the result of the Tarceva or the chemo, but I suspected it was the Tarceva. In my case, it came back darker and thicker, so a mixed blessing. :) Otherwise, it's exactly as you describe, wiry and out of control. I hesitate to use any kind of product on it since I don't want to irritate my scalp, which is experiencing the same rash as the ...
