I am living in the UK and was diagnosed in March 2015 very similar to your wife. My problem was the liver mets were around the vena cava in the liver so inoperable I was told palliative care only.  I saw a liver consultant in another hospital who said if you can reduce the tumour around the vena cava  and give him some operating space he would do so. I had 6 cycles of brutal chemotherapy and the tumour red...

WOW! Your dad is a pretty resilient guy. Positivity is a big part of it too.  I had stage 4 colon cancer mets to liver three years ago Inoperable in liver. But after chemo mets reduced enough in liver to remove tumours. I have since had large bowel removed and a couple of further ablations to the liver and more chemo.  I would suggest that you need to garner all the facts and if necessary get a second opi...

I had these drugs for stage iv bowel cancer with liver metastases that were inoperable I was told palliative care only. The chemo after just 6 cycles shrunk the liver tumours enough to operate and resect the liver .Then my large bowel, tumour and all plus 18 lymph glands were removed, 6 of which were cancerous. 6 more cycles of 5fU alone and a couple of ablations for recurring liver tumours and almost three year...

I wish you all the best of results from your chemo, which is tough in itself but when you have the opportunity of life you do whatever it takes. Like you Redline and Saundrav I had oxaliplatin and 5-fluorouracil through a line as I didnt cope with the oral quivalent very well. After the liver operation which was made possible by this combination I developed a peripheral neuropathy which affects my legs a...

HI  I was in a avery similar position to your Mum and was told palliative careonly in March 2015.  Main problem for me like your mum was I had tumours around the hepatic vein as well as the mother tumour in the sigmoid. Thus the diagnosis. After the initial shock I decided to get another opinion and went to  see a consultant who works at Q.E. in Birmingham. In view of the urgency I went privatel...

So sorry to hear of your mothers condition. I was diagnosed with grade 4 Colon cancer with mets to liver supposedly inoperable and told palliative care only, go home and get your affairs in order. When we had managed to digest all that, we started looking for solutions, as we could not accept the diagnosis. I went to see a liver consultant who said he would operate if we could reduce the tumours,. So I had 6 cycles c...
