I wason Xeloda for over a year and it had less side effects than some of the other drugs I have taken. One thing I liked about it was that instead of being so tired that I didn't CARE about anything, I still felt enthusiastic about my interests inlife, but sometimes I just had to have a nap. I had a bit of hand/foot---sometimes I felt like I was walking on sticks, and my hands got really dry---buy yourself some handcream and be thankful they can treat this disease with so many new comparitively mild drugs compared to 20 years ago when chemo was wretched. Hi-I was diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the jaw in April when Ihad to have one of my few remaining teeth pulled--it was goingto fall out anyhow. And the PAIN is excruciating. I haven't heard of other people suffering as much pain as I have. I am on 125 mg fentanyl and oxycodone and motrin for the break through pain. Am I havihg a freak reaction> I t feels like someone is poking an icepick into my jaw. Now, there's going to be another problem on the other side. It has taken me a while to finally find an oral surgeon who will take medicaid. I hope he knows how to help me. Sharon
I have recently been diagnosed with ostronecrosis of the jaw, a side effect of the drug Zometa, which I have received several doses since 2003 for the metastisis of breast cancer to my spine and leg and clavicle. I am cancer free in my bones now but my jaw is dead, tissue over the dead bone won't heal from a tooth extraction and I am in excruciiating pain. They say there is no trreatment, it's irreversible and not much they can do. ANyother sufferers out there? How do you cope with it --increasing doses of pain medicine. It helps with the pain byt I am tired all the time, and sleep a lot more than I'd like to . My cancer is stable. Sharon B.
I have BC mets to the liver and spine, and have been on avastin for about a year I guess, and for the last two cat scans I have had significant decrease in my cancer ----none in the chest, and no progressionin the liver or spine. SO for me, it's working today. Try and keep it in the day. Looing too far into the future just makes us all anxous, and that's not good for the body. Peace and love, Sharon
I have a vertabrae Lumbar 1) which has been weakened by cancer, and since I have 50 percent compression (minimum symptoms) I am not a candidate for verteplasty. I am supposed to be talking with a surgeon sometime and have some kind of treatment -- Does anybody know how they treat this -- I have heard of somekind of anterior approach surgery where they build a cage for my spinal cord, and it sounds HAIRY, or to stabalize the weak bone with rods through the adjacent ones. ANy experience with either of these treatments?? Thanks.
i've been on doxil for about a year, and like it fine, but maybe I have a recurrence in my spine, so they are thinking about putting me on abraxane. It depends on what all the scans show. What are the side effects. and is there any vitamins and supplements or herbs that can help alleviate them? With doxil, I found nettle helped with the skin problems and mouth sores so much. SB

Doxil

I have been on doxil for almost a year, and at first I had bad skin rashes , hand foot, and was worried about the heart thing. I started taking 200mg of Co Enzyme Q10 a day to protect my heart, and getting acupuncture, and taking a Lebed exercise class and don't have side effects anymore. Sharon
I had breast cancer metastasized to the spine, and three years ago was treated with radiation, it took care of the pain and I didn't have any side effects.
I have breast cancer that has metasticized to the bones, and had radiation three years ago for it. Now a CAT scan shows a possible growth of a tumor in the vertabrae which has been radiated so they can't treat it again. However, i have few symptoms, no pain, and just a little tingling. I have read a bit about the surgical treatment of spinal tumors and would like to hear from anyone who has had that procedure. We're still not sure, I have a PET scan set for a week from now. Sharon
Our cancer center recently started offering the lebed method of exercise, a system designed to stimulate the lymph system, and relieve lymphedema--I don't have lymph involvement, but decided to take the class anyhow for its immune system stimulation--I seem to have fewer and less intense side effects from doxil --(mouth sores, itchy skin, hand-foot, constipation--fatigue --all are almost miraculously relieved and alleviated. Everyone taking the class says they feel rejuvenated - at least in spirit. I have a lot more energy and enthusiasm. So I am recommending it to everyone who takes chemo or who has lymphedema. Sharon B.
