      Them before Whipple is usually recommended because the tumor is to near a portal vein or as n your mms case it's near the blood vessel. Having chem before, shrnks it enough so that the surgeon can go in and remove the entire tumor leaving nothng behind!         They suggested gemcidabine after Whipple as a precautionary measure, due to my cancer was not only in the pancreas but outside the pancreas in my lymph nodes and small intestine. Gemcidabine is a milder form of chemo . I did gastronal folfirnox which is a very agressive treatment and after two treatments my pain was gone!           Hello saint123, I also had a Whipple done for stage 3 pancreatic cancer, went on gemcidibine for 6 months, only to have this recurrence in two areas of my liver  afew months later after being told everything was clear. I was given 5-6 months to live as my liver as in such bad shape. I was put on palliative care and given folfirnox treatment for pain.             Chemo after Whipple is usually given as a precautionary measure ! After having a Whipple it takes a long time to get your appetite back. Your hubby might try eating very small amounts throughout the day. I would eat a half peanut butter sandwich, lived on ensure throughout the day. . , Soft boiled egg, pudding etc. It's important to eat before chemo and drink lots after chemo.                 Chemo after a Whipple is usually recommended as a precautionary measure. Sometimes there are floaters that the human eye and even scans cannot pick up right away. With chemo it goes all through your body, and would destroy any floaters in hiding! Chemo given before a Whipple is usually because the tumour is usually located to.                       I am a stage 4 pancreatic cancer survivor . When doctors gave no hope I went directly to God because I knew he could do what doctors and chemo could not do. I am here to day only by the grace of God. Our God is awesome! I am now? making my way to 8 years of freedom from this wretched disease!
