I was given radiation to remove an enlarged thymus gland when I was 4 months old in 1937.  It was done to prevent crib death.  My mother was told I was at risk for dying if I didn't have the radiation.  There were no visible symptoms.  I know multiple treatments were given but don't know how many.  The radiation has not caused cancer yet but it has taken its toll in other areas.  I have no breast tissue as a result.  My shoulders are narrower than normal and my arms are shorter than others my height.  It has caused coronary artery disease with 4 arterial blockages and 2 heart attacks.  It has caused aortic valve problems and now that has to be replaced.  Other than the radiation I had no risk factors for heart problems.  I have never been overweight.  I have never smoked.  I am active and walk 3 miles every day.  There is no history of heart disease in my family.
