UPDATE :  Chemo helped shrink my mother's tumor. She is scheduled for a whipple on 2/29. Her surgeon said NECs are much easier to remove than regular PC. Let's hope for the best.

Hey all, Back in November, my mother had a CT scan for unrelated issues and a suspicious mass was found on her pancreas. At first, we thought it was conventional PC, but a biopsy showed that it was actually a poorly differenitated, high grade NET. The tumor is non-functional. The doctor said it was remarkable how early it was caught as it has yet to spread outside the pancreas, though it is touching a vein (but hasn...

UPDATE #2: It's been a while since my last update, but I've been busy with work ever since. Anyway, it turns out my mother's tumor is a NET, aka "Steve Jobs cancer" as one of my mother's doctors called it. It is still confined to the pancreas, is fast growing (but the fast growing ones are very reactive to chemo) and is non-functioning. From what I heard, the prognosis is far better than conventional PC. She began ...

UPDATE: We went to the doctor today and got some encouraging news. The specicalist who will be overseeing my mother's care said the tumor is operable at the moment. However, she is more concerned about the possibility of small cells spreading to other parts of her body than she is about the tumor in her pancreas. Therefore, she aims for my mother to begin chemo in a few weeks. After three months of chemo, she plans ...

Hi all, Last Thursday, my mother went for an MRI for a nodule in her adrenal gland. That night, her practitioner called and asked she see her today. At the office, she was told her adrenal gland is fine but the MRI caught a mass in her pancreas. The mass wasn't confirmed to be malignant, but the report said it is suspicious. It is approximately 3-4cm long and confined to the pancreas, though it is very close to the ...
