The trial is for Trametinib.  It is the second trial.  The first one was 80% successful.  This second trial is to test "tweeks" based on genetics.  Hence the reason my BRAF Mutation is so important.  In order to participate you must have the "Wild Braf" and I have the V600.  So....  But it has been successful in stopping the cancer AND reversing iodine resistance.  It doesn't m...

Sorry for the delayed response.  I don't get on this site too much anymore.  I was on it constantly for the first 5 years. In answer to your question; not that I remember.  My issue is my resistance to iodine.  There's currently no way to stop reoccuring cancer until I can obsorb iodine.  I was very excited about a new clinical trial at MSK.  I was almost in and then it was found I had ...

I tested my TG every 6 months.  TSH will never detect thyca.  It has to be kept as low as your body will tolerate but has nothing to do with detecting cancer.  Your TG after 6+ months should be undetectable.  Mine was immediately over 50.  I have had my TG tested every six months, Ultrasound yearly, and PET scan yearly.  It was the only way my reoccurrences were discovered.  There a...

I started this journey in February 2008.  Almost 10 years later I am about to start dealing with my FIFTH reoccurence!  Yep...5 times with thyroid cancer. That "treated so easily"..."no big deal" cancer.  Am I an exception?  Yes.  Are there a lot of us?  Definitely more than you would think.  There's another woman who I befriended on this board 9 years ago who is going through what ...

All the advice you are receiving is correct and a definite possibility.  But I would ask what her uptake was with RAI.  Reoccurence is not unusual is you are resistent to iodine.  I had a reoccurence just 6 months after my thyroidectomy and RAI.  I am resistent to iodine.  I am not by any means concluding that this is the case for your mom.  But it is a possibility.  Only your docto...

Don't bet on that statement.  I would have thought so also.  Yet here I am.....It's not a good place to be dealing with a deadly cancer. And it's definitely not "childs play".  Obviously you're totally discounting the importance of cancer.   I'll take the broken leg over what I've been through in the last 9 years and over what is yet to come anyday.  You have no idea if you are iodine resista...

I've been watching this discussion with great interest.  I totally understand those who decide to "watch and wait".  I get it because it is true, in most cases but not all, that thyca is a very slow growing cancer.  It is also true that for many, the simple surgery and one round of RAI puts any end to the cancer and you live happily ever after with a small pill a day.  But please don't lose sight ...

No but thank you for the suggestion.  I will definitely look into it.  That's why this board is so helpful.  I've been on it for 9 years.  First for all the help and info I could find.  Then to help others.  Now I've gone full circle and am back for more input.

No I'm not saying death would have been my preference.  I was very aggressive in my treatments and was active in my decisions.  I was one of the first in my area, first in the endo practice to even use thyrogen due to my own personal study.  BUT...I may have looked more at more ground breaking remedies and/or studies.   It's really not about getting help.  It's about making the right decisio...

I've been watching this debate going on.  Who can miss it?  I actually can see both sides.  But there are so many variations and exceptions, you have to take everything into consideration.  I found my cancer in 2007; no side effects of course as many don't have.  I had my thyroid out in 2008.  The doctors agreed I had had this cancer for at least 8-10 years based on testing.  Had I ...

I am a 63 year old woman living in sunny Florida. I have three children, one dog and a very supportive husband. I still work 50+ hours a week as my husband and I own our own business. I have many medical issues besides thyroid cancer, but everything seems to be under control. From my posts you will see I am very optimistic and a fighter. I believe in being your own best medical advocate and fighting for yourself. Always stay positive; it's your best medicine.
