I live in Toronto and can say with complete assurance (and personal bias :-) that it is a lovely city to visit with a stunning waterfront, fabulous restaurants and worldclass health care at Princess Margaret Hospital for GBM. We have a very diverse cultural population and do a reasonable job of making public spaces accessible. If you are staying downtown (which I recommend) then the subway and streetcar transportatio...

My husbadn was diagnosed two years ago and has no significant deficits and no change in his quarterly MRI's since the tstandard treament. So we are very, very lucky. We are fortunate to be able to travel and have done so almost constantly since his treatment ended. We are young retirees and have always been quite active and curious about the world anyway so we continue. If you are looking for insurance, I found a we...

I didn't see anyone else writing about two new treatment research studies that sound to me like they have huge potential. Sunnybrook, in Toronto has already tested the use of a combination ultrasound and MRI to destroy a GBM without cutting. The MRI enables the surgeon to exactly pinpoint the tumour using low ultrasound waves. Once the target is identified, the ultrasound is adjusted to heat and destroy the tumour ce...

My sympathy goes to you both. What is your NO saying about the possible side effects of more TMZ and radiation? My husband's NO at Princess Maragret in Toronto told us that the 6 weeks radiation was a lifetime dose and that the TMZ is really not a good idea indefinitely and suggested 12 months of the 5/23 and then stop. I understand the tumours mutate away from their original genetic makeup so a recurrence may well ...

My husband was diagnosed stage 4 GBM in June 2013. Standard protocol since then. Good blood work and MRIs since then. Experienced some scalp itch during wound healing but that's mostly stopped. Mainly experiencing fatigue. Last month lost 30% hearing on left ear (tumour was left temporal lobe). MRI still good, ENT says no infection. Turns out hearing loss likely an effect of radiation which showed up almost a year po...

Thanks for your input.Hope the results continue to be great for her. My husband will play it month by month. For now he is content to continue and, as we are retired, we can manage our schedule to ease up on chemo weeks. best wishes.

So much new research every month. Now there's the possibility of ultrasound to zap tumours without surgery. May buy time until personalized medicine catches up to this type of tumour. Sending positive thoughts your way.

They did not test for MGMT because there is no alternate treatment that has shown to be more effective so the information would not be useful. My husband's tumour did shrink between surgery and six weeks of chemo/radiation and then shrunk a bit more 3 months into the 5/23 regimen, though the NO said it was hard to see the shrinkage as it was so small. The next MRI  (6 months into 5/23) showed no change and my h...
