I wish that I could find out how many treatments I had, but that isn't possible. The hospital has been torn down and my parents have been gone for years. My thymus gland didn't shrink up as it should have, and I my mother said I was making horrible noises. When the doctor finally heard them, he ordered the radiation. I suppose the doctors were really to blame along with the hospitals, but in my case it was so long ago, neither is still around.
I don't have anymore information about my treatment. I didn't think to ask more questions when my mother told me that I had had the radiation. It was in referencetoa Marcus Welby show about the subject and my parents have been gone for years. I also had my thyroid removed in 1983 for the same reason, but it was done as an infant and not because of any law. I am from IL.
I hd a double mastectomy 11 days ago. I am 67 years old and while my pain is not horrible, it is there. I cannot take the pain meds they gave me, I was horribly loopy. So I had to stop taking them two days after the surgery. I can't take ibuprofen, because I have sclerosing mesenteritis so all I could take was Tylenol. It must be great to have no pain. My dad died of stomach cancer and he had no pain. Maybe both of you have/had very high pain tolerance levels.

I guess I am lucky that the cancer didn't hit me until I was 67.  I had my double mastectomy 11 days ago and prayerfully they have gotten all the cancer.  I have been plagued with auto-immune diseases for over 15 years-fibro myalgia, migraine, ibs, problems with my tear ducts, sclerosing mesenteritis.  I don't know if I've named them all or not, but al least I am alive!  It could have been a lot worse.  I think overall I have been blessed.

I'm not sure if my mother told me this, but someone did. It was that we would either be mentally retarded or a dwarf if we didn't have it done. Now, that would certainly be enough to scare parents.

I am new to this group, but I had radiation treatments to my thymus in 1946 when I was a baby because I was having breathing problems.  In 1983, I had my thyroid removed because I had cold spots and they could not tell if they were cancer.  After they operated, they found out it was not cancer.  Last year, I was diagnosed with sclerosing mesenteritis.  Last week I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  My breast cancer surgeon said that the radiation may have caused my cancer.  She is sending me to a radiologist for more information.  I will let you know what I find out.
