Hi, May of 2003 I was diagnosed with stage 2 squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.I underwent 5 weeks of outter radiation and brachytherapy radiation as my treatment. No chemo. I have undergone several surgeries due to the effects of radiation on my jaw, last and most recent was June of 2009, due to nacrosis of the jaw, I had to undergo a double fibula flap surgery to reconstruct my jaw, gum line and floor of my mouth. Even though the journey has been a rough one, I choose to smile, and keep a positive attitude. In my quest for living, I also choose to embrace my experience and share it with others, so that they may become educated on the issues that all head and neck patients, survivors, caregivers and medical personnel have to endure.
