Phase III Clinical trial showed that a smaller dose of polio virus directly into brain cavity has extended life time of trial patients and cured two or three patients at least to this time.  FDA has fast tracked this Duke trial.  Don't know when GBM patients will be able to get the vaccine--unfamiliar with FDA procedures.  Check out cbsovertime.com.  MD Anderson did the same thing with a col...

My 48 year old son has the same cancer and has had two operations over an 8 year period.  Since the last one in June 2012, he has been monitored by both NIH and Hopkins.  The tumor has returned and NIH highly recommends radiation therapy.  You get diverse opinions from the oncos at Hopkins.  My son does not want to do radiation because the tumor is very close to the brain part that controls commun...

My wife had temodar with radiation and it dropped her platelets into the teens.  She had to get platelet infusions for three or four weeks, and finally her platelets returned to an acceptable level, but the infusions took their tolls on her mentally and physically.  There is not explanation for why it happens to some GBM patients and not others.   There is an idiopathic platelet loss chat room an...

In 2008, the Hopkins surgeon said he thought that he had removed the entire tumor.  In 2012, the same surgeon said that he may not have removed the entire tumor because it was too close to the area of the brain that controls speech, etc.  That is the problem with all tumors beyond Stage I.  You cannot remove all the tumor cells. He has had no radiation treatments, although they want him to start now a...

My 48 year old son has somewhere in between a Stage II and Stage III anaplastic Astrocytoma.   First operation was in June 2008 and second was June 2012.  Tumor is regrowing and MDs want him to start on radiation, but the tumor is very near the brain area that controls communication skills and he is afraid to start radation at Hopkins.  He is also being seen at NIH.  What I am trying to get h...

There have been a number of people that post on this Board that have taken accutane and a number feel that it has helped them deal with their tumors.  However, there have been few if any that believe that accutane alone was responsible for extending their life span.  Most, including Ben Williams, who has been tumor free for twenty years have taken a number of drugs and supplements, etc. to keep their tumors...

This message is for the lady that started this discussion. Buy Ben Williams' book (he is 20 year GBM survivor) and go on internet and get his latest report on treatments for GBM.   There have been very promising treatments that have been featured on sixty minutes and a new HBO show called Vice.  If I can find the internet references on those shows, I will send them to you.  You really have to go ...

I saw the Sixty Minutes segment, and the trial is a Phase I available to patients with recurrent GBMs.  The program reminds me of the Duke trial my wife was in back in 2004.  It was a successful trial of a vaccine for GBM patients, and I am sure the vaccine extended the life span of many patients who received the vacccine in the trial, some of whom may be alive today.  However, it did nothing for my wi...

http://www.newswise.com/articles/using-fat-to-fight-brain-cancer.  You had to finish spelling "cancer."  Quinones-hinajosa is becoming quite renowned.  They did a segment on him on "Sixty Minutes."  I lost my wife to a GBM in 2006.  We actually had a drug that was killing her GBM cells, and then another GBM appeared on the other side of her brain.  The Duke team treating her had no...

Son just turned 45, has had two operations, and has an astrocytoma that has characteristics in it that it make it more dangerous than most Type 2s.  He is considering whether he should start chemo or radiation to prevent an early return of the tumor, and is being treated at Johns Hopkins.  My wife was treated at Duke, and my son goes for second opinions down to Duke because the family has a close relat...
