Hi everyone. My brother-in-law recently underwent surgery for grade 3 astrocytoma. At his recent follow-up MRI the doctor told him that he saw "increased diffuse enhancements." We are trying to get a good definition of what that exactly means and are receiving mixed information. Can anyone in the community please let me know if they have experience with this? Thank you.

Thanks for posting this. I knew that there were possibilities of this happening, then all of a sudden one day my eyes started draining. It's really annoying, but not painful. It's been going on with me for about a month, so hopefully it will clear up on its own.  I had pain in my parotid gland and duct from the RAI and now this. Amazing what side effect possibilities they don't tell you about when you're gettin...

Sounds similar to what I had as well. Saw a dentist, GP, and ENT. The ENT is the only one who was familiar with the problem. I have a dental journal article that explains a bit more about what's going on. If you want a copy, message me with your email address. The ENT did say that if it was really bad they could do a series of steroids to open the salivary ducts, but recommended Mucinex (plain, not DM) first to see ...

For those who have had the salivary pain - did it eventually go away? If so, how long did it take? If not, how long have you had it. Just trying to figure out if it's something that's permanent or not. Thanks all.

I'm right where you are. There's another post about this right now over here: http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,65401,0.htm The metallic taste started 5 weeks ago for me and was followed by intense pain when I ate. Hopefully you'll be spared that part!

Must be contageous. I had my RAI treatment about a year ago and my salivary glands started bothering me 5 weeks ago. Went to the dentist and they sent me to an oral surgeon who said there was nothing wrong with my jaw. Going to an ENT specialist in two weeks. At first the pain was terrible. Gargled with salt water, hot compresses, and ibuprofrin help. The bitter/metallic taste in the mouth is nasty. I realized it w...

Dr. Haymart was one of my doctors when I had my thyoid removed. I was stage 1, but because of other factors she did recommend I have RAI treatment.  That was just over a year ago and this past week I started having complications with my salivary glads. Hopefully they will pass, but as the article mentions, there are risks involved.
