      I had an esophagectomy 3 years ago, and I have occasional pain (not severe) in my chest where my esophagus used to be. It happens most often at night in bed, or at least that's when I notice it most. It is annoying, but when I asked my PA about it, he didn't seem concerned.

        I've had 3 BCCs in the past decade, one on my upper arm, one on my forehead, and one on my cheek. I've been seeing a dermatologist regularly for at least 25 years to have him remove some scaly pre-cancerous cells with frozen nitrogen. With the BCCs, he did biopsies in his lab as I waited, then came out to do the surgery in his office, stitched me up, and that was that. There's a dime-size discolorization on my arm, b...

            I'm getting near the end of 4+ weeks of chemoradiation in preparation for an esophagectomy. My understanding is that the survival rate 5 years out for the surgery is 50%. (I'm stage 2.) What is the survival rate (years) if I opt out of the surgery? jl
