Just a quick post here on the results of John's PET and bloodwork...9 months post treatment. PET was clean/clear! Bloodwork was great! So thankful to God... So I had posted and many of you commented about the extreme, random fatigue episodes...the Oncologist feels like it is simply just radiation effects and overdoing things occasionally especially since it has been hot here in NC. This was exactly the consensus ...

Hi Friend: Yes, one of the episodes occurred after being at the beach for a few hours. We were under an umbrella and it was early morning but still hot. Blood work tomorrow and a fresh PET scan next week just to look at everything again. Thanks for responding. I always look to see what you have to say on matters, Karen

Thanks Christy. Yes we are well informed on all things thyroid as I have Hashi's. We have had two thyroid panels and so far everything is good.

Thanks PopPop! This week has been fine so far. John is going in for labs tomorrow and a follow up PET next week. We believe this is most likely heat and activity related bouts of fatigue. It has just been more concerning due to the severity of the episodes. Many blessings to you and yours.

Thanks for responding. Your experience sounds like the occasional tiredness that John sometimes experiences. But these last four episodes have been very different. Extreme fatigue and weakness as in all he feels like doing is blinking. Not really sleepy. He can recover in a few hours or overnight. He had two episodes in one day that lasted about two hours each. Just strange. We have a call in to his Oncologist...

Hi Again Everyone: I am checking back in to seek your experiences with extreme fatigue months after treatment. My hubby John had 35 radiation sessions and weekly chemo for RT Tonsil HPV related cancer. He did great with treatment and experienced the normal fatigue associated and as others typically reported. He is 9 months out and has done really well with recovery until the last few weeks. He has had several d...

My husband John saw his ENT today for a follow up. He is four months post treatment. The ENT suggested he try the Pilocarpine 5 mg for dry mouth with the caution that it may only make him sweat and do nothing for saliva. It is expensive as in over $100 after insurance for a 30 day supply. How much benefit did you get from it if you used it? Thanks, Karen

The PET will be scheduled sometime between mid June and Mid July. John's doctor said he expects it to read "slight hyper metabolic activity as would be expected after radiation". He made another general but clinically-substantiated statement that patients who have residual disease usually do not recover well in the first three months. In other words, the fact that a person has positive recovery signs is a positive...

Just an update and hopefully a word of encouragement to others who are somewhere in this SCC journey... My husband John had his first CT scan today after finishing chemo/rad in early November with an excellent report. The Radiation Oncologist saw nothing other than some expected soft tissue swelling that will continue to resolve. As a welcome bonus, the PEG tube was removed today painlessly and quickly! John has...

Thanks everyone! It's mostly a nuisance it seems. It just took us by surprise since it showed up randomly after several months. Karen
