You may feel like you are all alone but there are many of us. I know that does not help with you present needs. Have you checked in to what the cancer center your mother goes to or an affiliation with a church? Some cities offer help with volunteers. That is just a few options. I know I need help too. When I sit and break it down on what would me.....I look at the list and think well I should be able to manage it. N...

I'm. Glad you are doing so well. It is absolutely true that the docs don't tell you that the "healing" time is so much more difficult. My husband has had swallow and speech therapy and he still goes 2x a week 1 year after final treatment. Again everyone's journey is different. Take care and will add you to my prayers

looks like you have had no responses, so I will give you my 2 cents. You did not mention the stage of your cancer and since surgery was done I would have to assume it was early rather than late. The daily radiation is difficult but not impossible. if a feeding tube is suggested do it. It was the only way my husband was able to get nutrition for months. Then the sideeffects are  a different kind of hell. There ...

Your symptoms could be from many things but you don't want to wait if it is a serious condition. I'd advise not to go to your primary care doc and see an ear, nose and throat doc. They can scope you (not painful) and order the correct testing if needed. My husbands cancer was missed by this primary care and his dentist. First visit with ENT he knew exactly what it was - still fighting it after a year. Good Luck

Just a couple of comments. My husband has base of tongue cancer and he finished treatment about 9 months ago. He has a gtube and if the inside flange is too tight it can be uncomfortable and it should be an easy adjustment. second, my husband was dependent on a combo of ensure and benecal for several months. Our insurance paid for it and was delivered monthy to our home...a savings of at least $500 a month. and lastl...

Have you asked a social worker at the hospital about applying for assistance. I do believe the state of Calif. will pay a family member for caregiving. It is all consuming and your feelings are normal. I have forced myself to carve out little bits of time just for me and it has helped.....until I walk back in the door. Some days are better than others; try and hang on to the memories of the good days.

I am weary and feel like we are being lied to. We have been going through this for just over a year, I can't imagine 16 years. My husband has inoperable base of tongue cancer with mets to nodes. He finished his radiation and chemo june of 2018. his first pet scan showed a mass in the lung so a biopsy showed nothing significant and to wait and watch. his 2nd pet showed lung mass was gone but he has a new one near his ...

It sounds like your Dad would benefit from a G tube for nutrition. The radiation and chemo will make it more difficult for him to take food by mouth. Hope he does well with his treatments.

Just checking back to see how you are doing. I hope you have found some/any coping mechanisms. I'm at a point also that there are days that I don't think I can go one. My doctor has put me on antidepressants, valium and I attend a support group - still not enough. But we push on because we must. The person we loved most in the world do longer exists so we go on for them.

My husband finished treatment for inoperable base of tongue cancer in June '18. First Pet scan showed mass in lung and BX was inconclusive. Anyway Pet scan done last week showed lung mass has resolved, thank God but his tongue cancer has returned. He is now scheduled for a MRI. Has anyone else had treatment for a recurrent inoperable base of tongue cancer? Thanks for any input
