My story is very similar to your husband...please read my blog to see what I have explored with doctors. Bottom line for me...surgery to remove cancer damaged some nerves which will never grow back.  These damaged nerves resulted in serious esophageal spasms that cause me to immediately vomit any/all liquids.  The nerve damage also slowed my digestive system to the point where it takes anything too long to...

Many individuals here are on SSDI and will be elligible for Medicare in 2 years.  There are tv ads for Part D and advantage plans and it can make your head spin. Does anyone have some helpful advice for determining best way to determine needs?   Any tips?

RE Cancer Treatment Centers of America...unless you have "good insurance" or lots of cash, they won't treat you.  A friend called them and was turned down because of her insurance.  I know of others that experienced similar.   They never do pro bono cases.

I have been battling low HGB for quite a while (stomach cancer diag. 12/2009 - total gast 1/2010, additional surgeries following).   I have received several blood transfusions and I get monthly iron infusions as well as on occassion twice weekly iron infusions.  I was always borderline anemic so no one is surprised.   Total gastrectomy (especially if there is any loss of small bowel as I had) will re...

Good luck. I don't know if GBM diagnosis waives the wait period.  For 99% of all disability claims there is a 6 month waiting period in which you will not receive any payments (nor will they be retro paid).  I was approved in January but did not receive first check for July until almost September.  I then received two checks in October (for August and September).  I now receive my checks on the ...

I think I had two people (maybe it was one person who offered twice) offer to bring over a dish to feed the children after 1st surgery.  No offers to shop for me, go with me to doc appointments, etc.   Exhole even had nerve to tell me I had to give him gas money if I wanted him to bring the kids to visit me in hospital. Having said that, I do admit that I don't think I was uber supportive with my friends d...

An emergency room at a hospital must treat him regardless of insurance.  They may not be able to assume long term care but if he is in the ER and they order a scope at that time, he will get a scope.   Have you suggested that he apply for public aid?  There are programs in place to help those who are uninsured.  Next time he is in the ER ask to speak to the hospital's social worker who can help h...

I think that there are additives in food that may not be the best thing to consume HOWEVER I don't believe that anyone can prove that what you eat causes or contributes to the origin of all cancers.  There are genes proven to be present in some cancer populations - seems that even if these individuals eat a 100% natural diet of only the most select fruits, veggies, lean "healthy meat" blah blah blah that they wi...

I can only suggest that you keep pestering the docs to continue looking for the cause of the pain.  Oftentimes they start with most likely (ailments they see most often) and move down the list until they start thinking beyond the standard abdominal pain.  I am sure they did blood labs and found nothing of concern.   Start tracking everything he eats, when he eats, when he has bowel movements, activity...

In December 2009, I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. On January 8, 2010, I had a total gastrectomy (removal of entire stomach). I was fortunate that the cancer was caught so early because it meant I did not need chemotherapy or radiation. This is part of my story http://lifeaftergastrectomy.wordpress.com/
