I am Kimmie Anne and am a 58 y/o female living with Stage 4 Non Small Cell Cancer.  I was diagnosed in 2003 and given 2-3 years to live (textbook response at that time).  I did a year and a half of chemo, six months of radiation and have been taking Tarceva 150mg daily for the past 7 years and the Tarceva is saving my life.  Here I am 10 years later and I had been a smoker all my life.

Randy, it is selfish of you not to try to get better for the sake of your family.  Refusing to take one pill a day to sustain your life is unacceptable.  Please do this for your wife and child.  They need you.

Lynne, I am praying for you and your family.

Carrie, so very sorry for your loss.  I am keeping you in my prayers.

Consult your oncologist.  Your immune system may be compromised if you are taking medicine.

Hello.  My name is Kimmie Anne and I am a 58 y/o female living with Stage 4 NSCLC.  I was diagnosed in 2003 and given 2-3 years to live.  I did a year and a half of chemo, 6 mos of radiation and took the oral tab, Iressa.  I have been taking Tarceva 150mg for the past 7 years and am doing great!  The Tarceva is making history by shrinking tumors in the lungs.  Perhaps the oncologist would consider Tarceva also.  It truly is saving my life.

You are both in my prayers.

My name is KimmieAnne and I am a 58 y/o female living with Stage 4 NSCLC.  I was diagnosed in 2003 and given the textbook 2-3 years to live.  Here I am 11 years later!

I did a year and a half of chemo, 6 months of radiation and 6 months of oral tab Iressa (now off market).  I have been taking Tarceva 150 mg for 7 years and it is saving my life.  I visit my oncologist every 6 months for bloodwork and have a chest x-ray annually.

Have faith and never give up.  Always consider all of your options.    Be grateful for each day.  Keep your "side of the street" clean.  Treat all you meet with kindness.

Praying for us all.

Hello!  I am KimmieAnne and I am living with NSCL Stage 4.

Four months ago I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder.  I suffered severe neck and shoulder pain.  As a result of an MRI ordered by an orthopedic surgeon, it was discovered that I had a major tear in my "supra" muscle.  The tear was so bad that an hour surgery turned into two hours and a couple of screws in the top of my arm bone to re-attach the muscle.

Don't let it go too long...my muscle snapped!

I did have shoulder pain prior to my cancer diagnosis.  However, it was due to a collapsed lung (plural effusion).  I had severe wheezing and difficulty breathing and had felt sick for a long time.  The doctor could tell my lung was collapsed by "thunking" on my back below my shoulder blade.

Sometimes the Internet is scary and there is alot of bad information out there.  Do not stress yourself out.  See an orthopedic doctor for an MRI.

Praying for you.

Hello, Rdrew79.

I am KimmieAnne and I am a 58 year old female living with Stage 4 nsclc.  I was diagnosed in 2003 and given 2-3 years to live.  I did a year and a half of chemo, 6 months of radiation and took the oral medicine Irressa (no longer available on market).  I have been taking Tarceva 150mg daily for the past 7 years and it is saving my life.  In my case, the staging really doesn't matter to me anymore because I have out lived the "textbook" timeframe of this cancer.  When I began taking Tarceva, it was a drug prescribed as a second line of defense, when the first lines of defense (e.g. chemo, radiation) were unsuccessful.  This is a miracle drug and is now being widely prescribed as initial treatment or as first line of defense.  It is being celebrated because of its tumor shrinking ability.

Encourage your mom to take her Tarceva at the same time every day on an empty stomach (waiting an hour after to eat) or two hours after she has eaten (again, waiting an hour after to eat).

I know this is a scary time for you both.  Keep the faith.  Take the Tarceva.  Never give up.

You are both in my prayers.

Hello!

I am KimmieAnne and I am living with Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer.

Tell your doctor that you want a CAT scan or a referral to a specialist.  If he will not do this for you, select another doctor.  The doctor works for you.

Please do not wait.  I smoked on and off all my life and had symptoms like yours during the year.  I was never diagnosed with lung cancer until my lung collapsed and I was hospitalized with a chest tube.

You are in my prayers.

My name is KimmieAnne and I have Stage 4 nsclc.  I have been on Tarceva 150mg for 7 years now.  I was diagnosed in November of 2003 (given 2-3 years to live), did a year and a half of chemo, 6 months of radiation and took oral tab Irressa (no longer available).  Was prescribed Tarceva 150mg.  Experienced minor side effects.

This medicine is saving my life.

Best wishes.
