Hello, I, as well, was treated for an enlarged thymus gland with radiation in 1951 at Martins Ferry.  I had thyroid cancer and had the surgery done at Johns Hopkins in Balt., MD.  My surgeon told me he has lots of people from the Ohio Valley that received this treatment and ended up with thyroid cancer.  Everyone is born with an enlarged thymus.  It controls the immune system and keeps baby safe ...

Hi Mary, Thank you for sharing your story. Please talk to me anytime you like.  When I hear your story, I think what an amazing person you are.  Are you fair skin?  My father was Italian and I have very dark Italian skin. When you were talking about how pink your skin was and the white caps, it make me think. Also, you mentioned it was more than your body could take. I wonder if darker skin would prot...

Hi Mary. Your story sounds like everyone elses.  I had a cancerous muti-nodular thyroid. Removed in 1996.  So far that is all that has happened to me.  I was told that the radiation was extreme in the 40-50's because it was so new. I wish you the best, Lorraine Ohio Valley

Hi Barbara Ann, In 1980 I had a total hysterectomy because of endometriosis.  My surgery was very   extensive.  I was in the hospital 3 days and it took about 6-8 weeks of recovery.  For me, the surgery was not as bad as I thought.  It's a major surgery but very common.  You will be just fine.  The most important thing is having a surgeon that does nothing but hysterectomies all da...

Hi Valarie, I had endometriosis and had total Hys.  Sorry about your surgery and all you have been through.  Did you have the IUD or any birth control inserted in the uterus?.  I did and that is where the endo. came from.  Did you have the radiation  on your thymus gland? Lorraine
