Thanks Arman for the reply.  My doctor talked about taking medication for dry mouth.  She didn't mention it by name, but I wonder if it is the same drug as Salagen??  She did say it can have some serious side effects.  But then again, don't all drugs??  Do you notice any side effects from taking Salagen? I notice that my taste for sweets is improvining slowly.  I am sure within a few mo...

Thanks Susan for replying to my message.  The tube removal went really well & was relatively painless!!  I did feel some discomfort, but it was nothing like what I expected!  I didn't have the G-Tube (I think that's what they call it with the balloon attachment at the end).  Instead, I had the other...the PEG tube with the stopper doohicky thing at the end (forgive me for not knowing the prope...

First, Let me say that I am glad to hear your husband's PET scan came back clear.  It's always encouraging to hear the good news.  Second, I had cisplatin, too.  But only for the first treatment.  The cisplatin robbed me of some of my hearing...even after the first dose (I was scheduled for 3 rounds).  My ears rang horribly within hours of receiving my first treatment.  After going throu...

Hello All, It's been 2 or 3 months since I've been to this forum.  I just thought I'd log on and read some of the posts & let others know my status.  Oct 14th was my last radiation treatment to the head neck area.  I was diagnosed w/ stage 4 cancer in the right tonsil along with lymph node involvement.  The biopsies tested positive for the HPV virus.  Not long after treatments finished, ...

Hello all, It's been a while since I've been on CC. Tomorrow (Oct. 14) is my final treatment for radiation (35 total for tonsil cancer w/ lymph node involvement). I am happy about getting through treatments, but have developed a condition where I produce massive amounts of thick phlegm. I go through several gagging episodes throughout the day to rid my throat of this "nasty" gelatinous junk!! Did I mention it ...

Brian gives very good advise on this. Because of him, I had my PEG tube inserted a week ago. Initially, I had some discomfort. But it never got too bad. It was more of a tenderness in the area. I am glad I got it already. I don't have any mouth sores yet, but food tastes like garbage!!! I use the tube when I just can't eat garbage anymore. I think you'll be glad you got it, too. Take care my friend and God Bl...

My onco wants to switch my chemo regimen from cisplatin to carboplatin. Does anyone have any experience with this? The cisplatin has caused some hearing loss. She could'nt tell me if it was permanent or not. But, said the next round would certainly cause permanent damage -- which is why they are changing the drug. Any info you can give would be greatly appreciated. -Michael-

Hello Bugsy...thank you for offering to send a picture of your dog to help with the "happy thought". But, I think my dog would be jealous :) Also, thank you for all of your helpful advice...I will find something I can meditate on to get me through this. I've already started to focus on some things I will do once I put this all behind me. I've projected these "things" far enough out into the future to allow for a ...

Hello Susan...thank you for all of your words of encouragement. Sharing your experience and knowledge has really helped. Just curious...instead of a dog at your feet or a cat on your lap, how about a dog on your lap and no cat, will that work?? ;) Again, thanks fo all of your help. I've read many of of your comments on so many different threads. It is obvious that you are dedicated to making sure others are well...
