THe last few months have been a whirl wind.  Sondra was on hospice for just under 2 weeks when she passed away.  She lived with GBM for 62 months.  They said at the end her body was tired and she had some signs of internal bleeding.  She spent the last 7 days of her life in bed and was comfortable, with only one of those days being agitated- they called it terminal restlessness.  I was just s...

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply and finding that info.  The dr actually wasn't basing her decision about no treatment on the platelets, she is basing it on my MIL's deep exhaustion and her inability to get her feet in bed, stand up from the kitchen chair, get off the potty, and her basic decline in 3 weeks.  When she told this to my MIL, she agreed that there is no way she could tolerate any mor...

Thank you so much for your kind words.  She has been living with me and my husband and children for 1 year now and she is very dear to us. Even though her eating habits have not changed she has lost 6 lbs since Oct 1st.  I was very surprised since she is retaining fluids. Thank you for sharing your story.  Going to just take it one day at a time and give every opportunity for hugs and love between us...

My mother in law, Sondra, had her MRI and dr apt today. The MRI is the same as last time except there is less swelling.  However, Sondra has declined so much in the past 3 weeks that the doctor says even though her MRI is ok, Sondra is not ok.  She is no longer strong enough for any treatments.  Her blood work showed that 6 weeks ago her platelets were 180,000 and now they are down to 75,000- but the d...

Yes she is diabetic and we have increased her blood sugar meds since her sugars have been in the 300's at times.  I forgot to mention that we switched her from the depakote to the kepra.  No they did not do anything before they upped the steroids.  I will be so glad for the MRI on the 24th to see what is exactly going on there.  The tumor is in her right temporal lobe.  The nurse did mention ...

My MIL made it to the 4 year mark and had a regrowth so she had a second surgery, followed by Temodar and ABT888 which is a study drug.  She did well 8 months and it grew back so they did another round radiation.  After the radiation she started having brain swelling which is what we are battling now.  From what i have heard gettting the tumor out is the best way to go. But of course your dr will need ...

My MIL has had 2 resections and 2 rounds of radiation and 2 years total of chemo after being diagnosed in 9/2008.  She started having brain swelling and incontinence in early 9/2013.  after a week in the hospital they sent her home on depakote and 12 mg of decadron.  By Oct 1st she started having some weakness in her legs and last night she fell and couldn't get her legs to get her back up and is havin...

I agree, the symptoms and behavior are strange.  Some times my MIL can have a normal conversation and other times she says she doesn't remember or says things that kind of make sense but that she never would have said before.  We pay her bills now and dish out her meds and remind her to check her blood sugar.  She can't understand things in depth anymore.  But she did have the strange episod...

That is so hard on you I am sure.  You have so much pressure on you.  Is he willing to wear the adult pull ups?  I was very surprised that my mother in law was so willing to use them.  Incontinence is exhausting for the caregiver and embarrassing for the patient.  I think that the phenomenon of the patient acting better for others is normal.  My mother in law perks up when people visit a...

I am a wife and mom of 2 who cares very much about my MIL who was diagnosed with brain cancer in Sept 2008. We were told her cancer was GBM. She had 6 weeks of radiation with Temodar and lived with us for 3 months following diagnosis. She took monthly treatments of temodar until she had a very small stroke in Sept 2009. Her June 2010 MRI is clean as a whistle!
