HI, I was diagnosed with EC in 2014 and first had chemo/radiation treatment and then an esophajectomy (not fun).  I had a recurrence with nodules appearing in both lungs about 1 year later.  It was then that my tumor was tested for HER2 and I was HER2+.  I went through FOLFOX with Herceptin for 6 months, and have now been just taking Herceptin for almost 3 years with no new growth.  The nodules i...

I case to this site to ask about ways to manage reflux.  I think trying the MedCline pillow in addition to everything elxe (Tums, don't eat to soon to bedtime, acid reflux med, and wedge pillow) is worth trying.  I've been losing too much sleep with being uncomfortable and coughing when the reflux gets worse at 2 am, 3 am, ...  My right side seems to be worse for the reflux.  Does anyone kno...

A lesson from my fisrt month or so after diagnosis is to keep on the doctors/medical teams to keep your complete diagnosis going smoothly without too many delays. I was a bit befuddled by a few delays.  I was stage 2 based on initial endoscope.  Then 1 week to see my oncologist, he sent me to a surgeon that took another week +, he sent me back for oncologist - another week, he then sent me to the radiologi...

Good news, I'm glad for you. With the HER2 positive, did they also give him Herceptin?  That's a drup that targets the HER2. I started with chemo with 5FU/oxaliplatin/Herceptin in December.  Not a lot of fun.  I will get a scan some time in February.  I'm hoping for a direction similar to your husband.  My doctor has said that if this works, I'll continue with just the Herceptin at some poi...

I live in Knoxville, TN and used local doctors for standard chemo and radiation.  I had surgery at Duke.  They have several doctors there that have a lot of experience.  My surgery was successfu, although it is a tough surgery and recovery in general.  I have now had a recurrence and have been working with GI oncology specialists at Duke and Vanderbilt.  Both seem quite good and they have bee...

Sorry about your situation.  I does have many similarities with my situation.  I was diagnosed in Sept 2014, then chmeo/radiation, and then surgery.  I did have post surgery chemo with no cancer having been seen in my lymph nodes. I had a cough in this September, and now the CT and PET have shown 4 small  nodules in my lungs.  I saw two GI oncologist specialists at larger regional med center...

Hi All, I was found to have an apparent recurrence about 1 month ago.  I had the chemo/radiation, surgery, post surgery chemo from Oct. 2014-April 2015. I have 4 nodules in my lungs that are currently presumed a recurrence.  They are/were small, so plan for me is two more weeks and then a rescan to see if they have grown.  They are in difficult spots to biopsy.  My cells also tested positiv...

I had the same surgery 9 months ago and struggled for a while.  I heard from many on this site that it takes about 6 months to get a good feel for what is OK and not OK for you.  I know if varies to some extent person to person.  For me I can't have much of anything with sugar, otherwise I get the cramps and then diarhea.  Carbonated beverages also don't work well for me. Plain yogurt and shredded...

Tracy, Thanks for the thorough reply.  It is helpful to hear stories of how others have worked through this new anatomy. I have started making progress already and good improvement in past 2-3 weeks.  I started eating some lactose free dairy, and intend to do more in that area.  My calories have come up considerably, but still a little short of target.  Weight has only dropped about 2 pound...

Hi, I had an esophojectomy on Jan. 7, 2015, and the past month has had a number of challenges.  Many things have resolved and the surgery incisions, etc are healing OK.  My biggest issue for now is eating enough and what is apparently dumping syndrome.  I've stopped using the feeding tube about 1 week ago and am told to get 2000 calories per day.  I've only been able to eat enough to get about 1...
