I'm doing great. Been released from MD Anderson, told not to come back. Cant really tell I ever had cancer except for an every so often pain in the neck, jaw pain, and a little saliva shortage. But all is good. Actually dieting since I now have put on to much weight. I would say for me 6 months I was good, certainly by a year I was really good.

Have had some scares along the way wiht growths that had to be biopsied. But all negative.

I'm good. Thanks

Four years out of radiation this month. Last month I had a cat-scan that finally showed a little improvement w/ saliva glands. Dry mouth, jaw pain, tooth aches. All are still here, but being alive makes these things not such a big deal. I lost 60 pounds which was 40 more than I had to lose. But now I have put it all back on and actually have to diet. lol.

It is a long process and there is no normal. Just go w/ the flow.

The body will tell what is needed. Four years ago this month was my final treatment for SCC of the tonsil. I never did have the tube, but was told if I lose another 5 pounds I had to have it. Fought hard, didnt want one and got by w/o it. But of all the things to think about, the feeding tube should not be one of them. If he cant keep things down and keeps losing weight to an unsafe situation, then just get it. Plenty of other concerns.

-God bless and good luck

Rick

So, 2.5 years out and still cancer free from scc, left tonsil. But now I need two crowns put on. DDS says unrelated to radiation, anyway. I've heard horror stories about people that have had dental work after having radiation.

Any feedabck?

Thanks,

Rick

Hi All,

Been quite awhile since I did a post on the board. But just thought I'd update those old friends and try to give some hope to those going through treatments. I just had my 2.5 year check up at MD Anderson. All is clear and all is good. No signs of cancer, all taste back, weight back on (too much actually). Only lasting side effects. My ears itch often and dont make enough saliva. Little price to pay! For those that dont know me. I had squamous cell carcinoma of the left tonsil. Treatment was hell, side effects miserable. But now life is better than ever. Good luck to all. Rick

I had no peg tube, lost 30 lbs. and 18mos later have put 35 back on! I know have to diet!! It'll come back, be patient.

Rick

I had slight pain and what looked like a canker sore. Was told by 3 ent dr's it was nothing. But I insited on having it removed. Wasnt a canker sore, was a SCC tumor.

Biopsy are so easy to have done, and are the best in dedecting cancer. Gotta get it caught early!

God Bless,

Rick

You are in Houston. Please go to MDA as others have suggested for at least a second opinion. Ask to see Dr. Kupferman. AWESOME DR.

I've been out for 18 mos. and still have ear pain in both ears. Not nearly as bad as yours soun ds, but it is there. Over time it has gotten better, more of an itchy ear now.

God Bless,

Rick

I would take your doctors advice. They found many MANY nodules in my lungs when they found my head and neck cancer 18 mos. ago. I have had several ct. scans since then and the nodules have not changed, therefore they are considering them benign. Nodules can be caused by many things, not just cancer.

God bless,

Rick
