My husband had a Whipple procedure in Feb 2012.
                      He was diagnosed with the
                      Ampulla of
Vetar after his gall bladder was removed. 4 lymph nodes came out positive, and he was advised for 12 rounds of Chemo.Unfortunately he had a leak from his surgery and his wound was not healed till May 2012.He was on TPN and a wound care nurse used to come and do his bandage .After six months we went to see his Oncologist who surprisingly told him that its too late to have a chemo, means its 6 months now if u do the chemo or don't ,its the same thing .At this point my husband told me that he will not do the chemo as its too late.Anyways he was doing fine ,eating whatever he wanted to , gained weight too. But this year in m
March he starte d complaining of back pain, lost some weight due to lack of appetite.I told him to go an d see the Dr ,but he said he is fine its just that he is tired that's why his back hurts .Unfortunately it was not true as he ended up in ER due to severe pain in his belly in May 2013 where after two days we were informed that his cancer is back and he should start
Chemo .We didn't know that it was stage 4 ,or if its curable or not.
All we were told was its back and only option is to start chemo with Cisplatin and Gemzar. After 4 chemos he was so down that I had to hospitalized him.I asked the dr ,whats going on ?As my husband was so weak that he could even get out of his bed.He lost his appetite, lost more weight .Anyways that day the Dr. told me that he is stage 4 and if he takes the chemo then he had 10 months and if he cant take the chemo then he will survive till 6 more months more of less .
In July he developed some infection. Now he is getting a bit beter but his weight is now 110 only from 140.He is most of the time in his bed ,and is eating very small portions of soft food like cereal, soups and yogurt, egg, banana and milk.
Today his Oncologist told him that he can start his chemo after 2 weeks ,as he look better now but they have prescribed Folfox now .My question is this if anyone knows what I can expect from his treatment n how far the
Dr. is right about his statistics that I am God for bid losing him???
