Hello Mary and Rick, I can relate so very well to you both.  I'm a 13 head and neck cancer survivor (base of tongue).  I had the feeding tube inserted in 2003 before I started my chemo and radiation treatments.  After 1 year I was finally able to remove it and resume my eating of food.  Having said that,  about two years ago things began to get worse, to the poiint where I ws aspiration when...

I sounds like they were really on top of things for you my friend.  Unfortuantely I was not told anything about speech therapy.  It was only after I started having severe problem 5 years post treatment.  I also wanted to ask what stage cancer did you have.  I was stage IV.

Thank you for that information!  Yes!  I have attended some Braves games back then, small world!  lol  We, here in Richmond are trying very hard to keep the Braves.  Politics involving a new stadium is causing a lot of concern. I'm prayereful that all goes well. Thanks for the link.  I will check out Dr. Kraus.  I'm familiar with where his office is.  I use to travel to NYC ye...

Yes!  I was shock also to find my side effects popping up after so long.  I was never told this may happen. I also was never told the importance of seeing a speech therapist to exercise the mouth muscles.  As times went on my mouth became more and more tight.  I can hardly move my tongue now, nor stick it out.  It's if though I've lost half of my tongue.  I live in Richmond, Virginia. &n...

RE: Base of tongue cancer patients by Welltogetherdud - 4 minutes ago Hello Zachreb I enjoyed reading your Oct. 26 post.  I'm happy to learn that you are doing so much better. I, too, was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma-base of tongue cancer (2003).  I went through chemo and radiation also, no surgery.  I wanted to know how did you find out that your cancer was caused by the HPV...

Hi there.  I'm in the same situation.  I cannot swallow anything, not even my own saliva.  I have a peg tube, it's the mickey button, which is not bad at all because I don't have the tube contant.  I only attach it when it's time for feeding. I also cannot talk well, my speech was greatly impacted by the massive radiation to kill my tumor.  I'm coping with it but it has been difficult not bei...
